These early ink drawings were shaped in part by a literary influence, including a satirical description in Breakfast of Champions of a painting depicting a single vertical beam of light. That image prompted an extended exploration of the vertical line as a structural element and recurring visual motif.
Developed through layered applications of India ink, the drawings allow symbolic and creature-like forms to surface from dense tonal fields. Egg-like structures, ambiguous interior spaces, and hybrid figures appear within atmospheric compositions. Occasional passages of white ink heighten contrast and surface tension.
