This diptych series pairs observational charcoal portraits with abstract oil paintings, presenting each figure alongside a parallel field of color, texture, and atmosphere. The works explore the distance between public identity and internal projection, using the pairing format to suggest that meaning is constructed as much through interpretation as through representation.
Text and marks incorporated into some drawing surfaces emerged through studio interaction and response, allowing each portrait to carry traces of both individual authorship and collective commentary.
